am running XP Pro and have Powerpoint 97, 2000, 2002 & 2003 all installed (due to need for backward compatibility) My file association for .ppt is PowerPoint 2000 and I am unable to change it through "Tools", "Folder Options"' "File Types". nor can I change it through "Open with..." on a right click.

I did something stupid
I have associated these files with PSP in Tools>Folder Options>File Types. The PSP icon shows before each file. Dbl x'ing to open them gets me a dialogue box: "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Folder Options control panel." I had some problem with a lesser know audio format, that led me to use: [Tools - Folder Options - File Types] in Explorer. File association problem
Our software has a special uploading file type that one of my customers has accidentally associated with Excel spreadsheets. Normally, I would just tell them to go to the Tools, Folder Options and disassociate the file. However, Windows 2000 help pages say that sometimes the file isn't there. Wonderful.

It really sounds to me like some other application may have co-opted the file association for your .zip files (although that would launch the other Go to the Tools menu and execute Folder Options. In the Folder Options dialog, go to the File Types tab. In the File Types tab, scroll all the way down to ZIP
